In my first post, I mentioned that I was a Slacker Buddhist Pagan who dabbles in Pastafarianism. I thought I would elaborate on that a little.
I'll start with how I see the magickal universe. I believe that there is a greater divine force in the universe. It's both in every thing and beyond everything. We are both immersed in the energy and full of the energy at the same time. We are created from the energy, and when we die, we go back to it. I call it the All.
But, I also believe that our minds comprehend the divine through forms to make it easier to understand, and easier to work with. We choose something that resonates for us, and it helps us work with the All.
For me, the Buddha does it. That form of the divine has always called to me. I try desperately to hold myself to the ideals and practices. I'd love to be a vegetarian, but like I believe that practicing the dharma is a way to end suffering, I also believe that bacon was put on this earth to end suffering. (Seriously. Bacon. It's the Gods' Meat Candy.) I'm more of a middle path chick. I do nothing to excess, but neither do I refrain from doing anything either. I mean, there are the things we just don't do…you know, the big ones, kill, steal, watch American Idol, etc, but in general, I try to behave.
But Wage Mage, you also say you're Pagan? What's up with that?
I consider myself Pagan because of the magickal nature of my path. I believe that we can manipulate the energies of the universe within reason. I can tell you, I suck at formal scheduled magick like full moons and sabbats. Then again, I'm not Wiccan or even any derivative thereof. I do work magick, pretty much on an as needed basis, and at odd times. My car, the data room at my office, the pool at mage mommy's house, anywhere I need to. As much as I'd like to say I can do magick in my own head, due to the universe's gift of ADD, I don't. I am a big proponent of incense, candles, music, and visuals. Even movement. Especially music. Oh, the things I can do with a Pink Floyd song…
Okay, Wage Mage, you put slacker in there? Why?
Oh, because I am. I make no commitments. I mentioned in an earlier blog that I consider myself a random encounter. I'm a magickal and pagan slacker. I am not a formal practicing pagan or magician. I just AM. And it makes me a happy camper. This is also a result of the ADD where sometimes even remembering what day it is can be quite the challenge. Shiny objects can keep me busy for hours.
Then there's the Pastafarian part of me. The Flying Spaghetti Monster has touched me with his Noodly Appendage. He reminds me that sometimes we just can't take religion too seriously, and the consequences if we do. He is the one of the patrons of my sense of humor. Plus, if you know me, think about it. Does it look like I DON'T like carbs? Really? I love his sacrament Ramen, and have followed the words of his disciple Chef Boyardee.
In Part 2, mostly because I have to go back to work, I'm going to talk about the rest of my path.
Raaaaaaammmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnn and Namaste.
