Quoth the Hobbit: "What are some of your pet peeves when it comes to circles and public gatherings with others from the craft? Also because I feel the need for a balance what do you like the most?"
The Wage Mage has a few pet peeves. I normally don't bring this stuff up, because some things are best kept to me, but I think I will. Not much really bothers me about circles and public gatherings, but here's a few things that do:
I gotta agree with Zoe's hygiene comments. Patchouli is NOT a substitute for good grooming! Gods, I hate walking by someone and they smell like they haven't bathed in days! Deodorant is your friend! If I'm going to kneel before the All, I damn sure want to be nice and clean. The universe isn't going to take me seriously if I'm covered in three day old funk. That's one of those times the elders need to pull someone aside and hand them a bar of soap and directions to the showers.
Second, good communication and preparation. I hate it when I show up for a ritual scheduled at 5:00, to realize that nobody has the right supplies and the ritual happens at 7:30. Or one of the quarter callers is stuck in traffic. All the participants end up standing around bored, and it makes the HP and HPS look silly. I think Zoe touched on this too. The day before, everyone should know what time it starts and have the supplies together. There should be a backup in case someone gets sick or stuck in traffic. If there's a valid reason to be late, tell people why.
What do I love?
The people. Yeah, I know it sounds trite, but I'm serious. I love being around all of you. I love the quirks, the uniqueness of each of you. It always makes me feel so energetic after I leave a gathering. This community rocks. I feel at home here. Even though I live in Pinellas, I'd rather be with y'all here in Pasco.
